Red-back Fairy-wrens

Posted by
rick (brisbane, Australia) on 5 July 2013 in Animal & Insect.

The male has the red back while the female cranes her neck for some more preening.
This bird isn't related to northern hemisphere wrens. These birds (Malurus melanocephalus) and other species of Fairy-wrens are very social birds and form close-knit communal groups with a dominant male and female.
